Some of My Favorite Emotional Korean Dramas

1. Goblin

One of the greatest K-dramas ever made is The Lonely and Great God (Goblin). It is a story about the lives of Kim Shin, an immortal goblin, played by Gong Yoo, a grim reaper played by Lee Dong-Wook, Ji Eun-Tak, played by Kim Go-Eun, a happy high school student who can see ghosts, and Sunny, played by Yoon In-na, a charismatic young lady who runs a chicken shop. These characters are not just random strangers who meet each other by chance; rather, they are people who have this show will constantly hold a unique spot in my heart.

2. Crash Landing on You

Crash Landing on You is a drama about a South-Korean heiress (Son Ye-Jin) who accidentally lands in North Korea and meets a North Korean Special Police Force Captain (Hyun Bin) who decides to help her return to South Korea. It's a drama that will undoubtedly touch your heart. It took me three to four days to get over this drama because I became so emotionally invested in the characters. All credit goes to the show's creators and the actors whose performances were so convincing. Although romance-comedy is the main genre of this drama, there are no spoilers for those who have already watched or are about to watch it. There are scenes that are sure to make you cry and will touch your heart.

3. Descendants of the Sun

Descendants of the Sun is a classic drama by the same author who wrote Goblin. A touching love story between a surgeon and a South Korean Special Forces Captain, played by Song Hye-Kyo. Along with some plot twists, the drama is a complete package of action, romance, and heartbreaking, funny, and moving scenes. This show not only shows how doctors and soldiers in a country face real challenges and dangers, but it also shows that love endures all things. Strongly recommended!

Hi Bye, Mom!

A heartbreaking tale about a mother who, after her death, was given a second chance to live for 49 days so that she could reappear in front of her new husband and young daughter. "There's no such thing as a beautiful goodbye" is one of the many life lessons the show teaches about a mother's unwavering love. Ahh! What a profound thrill ride this show has been! If you're ready for some heartbreaking scenes, I highly recommend watching this drama.
